The Nerve of It - Nervous System Health in Crosby
It’s not unusual to hear a patient comment that we are “working miracles” in our office in Crosby MN because of the particular problem they came in with, improved or resolved without drugs or surgery. The truth is, we are fearfully and wonderfully made and designed with an on-board healing ability. Some call it “innate”. Whatever the name, we are made to be healthy. Our nervous is the primary director of this, and what our top Crosby chiropractor focuses on when adjusting his patients. We thought it helpful to look at our nervous system and how it can influence our health.
Cranial Nerves Affect More Than You Think
Beginning at the top, the cranial nerves are the nerves that originate where the brain and spinal cord meet at the base of our head. These affect our eyes, ears, nose and mouth, and blood flow to the brain. One of these nerves, called the Vagus, also affects most of our important organs like the heart, lungs and digestive system. It makes sense, then, that the upper cervical vertebrae (upper neck) could cause headaches, dizziness, sinus and ear troubles, as well as heart, breathing and digestive concerns. The lower cervical can cause issues in the shoulders, arms, and hands, but also the thyroid and throat.
The thoracic spine is the midback and the nerves that course out of this area run the internal organs such as the heart, lungs, stomach, liver, adrenals, and kidneys. This covers a wide swath of potential problems such as asthma/bronchitis, blood pressure issues, heartburn, weight problems, and frequent kidney issues. Chronic tiredness can also be a problem.
The lumbar spine and pelvis are known as the low back. Its nerves are going to run the legs, knees, arches, and toes, influence the bowel and bladder, and importantly, our reproductive organs. Many of the pains and weaknesses in the low back and legs, like sciatica and swelling, emanate from here. Bowel and bladder problems, such as constipation, hemorrhoids, incontinence, and bedwetting can occur. Fertility, menstrual troubles, and ED can result from nerve interference here, as well.
Although this is just the tip of the iceberg, adjustments by your chiropractor to remove the interference can relieve major problems and seem like… well… “a miracle!”
