Itching For Relief

Itching For Relief

Summer has finally arrived! Although this wonderful time of year can seem to be three days long, there is a menace that can make it feel like an eternity: Poison Ivy. Yes, this is the time of year where we hopefully get out into nature and enjoy its beauty. Unfortunately, we can also find that we have been in close proximity with poison ivy and its noxious oils.

The species is well-known for what is called a contact dermatitis. This is an itchy, irritating, and sometimes painful rash, in most people who touch it. Urushiol, a clear liquid compound in the plant's sap, is what causes the rash.[2] Poison ivy can vary in its appearance and habit and is not a  true ivy. Interestingly, it is a member of the cashew and pistachio family.

Multiple members of my family have already been a victim to varying degrees. Each have required their own response. There is an abundance of over-the-counter salves and sprays, and sometimes, seeing a doctor is required. Try this salve that has been helpful to our family if used early on.
